Dance & Paintings- Connecting the Arts

By connecting different forms of arts, we can convey messages distinctly, boldly, creatively….to appeal to a variety of audiences who each can absorb the message in his or her own way.

One such example is portrayed here. Using the following two paintings as props in my stage performance, I was able to convey the message about the value of building deep and true relationships.

Art & Poetry - Connecting Art to Literature

The Night : composed by Jishnu Ganguly

As the sky becomes darker

When the sun drops from sight

Daylight is fading

And approaching is night

The full moon rises

A sea of shadows falls

Blanketing over the land

As a distant creature calls

The trees silhouette

Starts shimmer above

This is the time

That I most love.

What types of dances are taught in Connect N Dance?

We primarily teach two types of dances:

  • Creative choreographies:
  • these dances are composed using Indian dance steps from a variety of forms (folk, classical, creative), and taught to a variety of Indian and international music.
  •
  • Indian Classical Dance – Odissi:
  • Odissi is a graceful, pure classical dance form originating from Orissa, a state in the Eastern part of India.

In the workshops, participants learn one full creative choreography that they will then perform for family and friends at the end of the workshop. In addition, participants also get an introduction to Indian classical dance – Odissi. The workshops are designed to enable participants to select the dance form they wish to learn in depth in classes thereafter.
