What is Connect N Dance?

Connect N Dance is a dance school and studio in Newton, MA where we teach creative choreography and Indian classical dance – Odissi. This dance school is a unique platform of connectivity that enables people of diverse backgrounds in our neighboring community to connect with one another, through a common thread of love for dance and music.  Multiple dance workshops are offered, to introduce participants to creative choreographies and introduce the basics of Indian classical dance – Odissi. The choreographies seamlessly blend Indian dance with international music in enchanting and mesmerizing compositions to unveil the harmony in diverse music across borders.

Registered participants in workshops learn stretching for flexibility, a full creative choreography that uses a variety of Indian dance steps (mix of classical, folk, casual styles) and get introduced to basics of Odissi. At the end of the workshops, friends and family of the participants relish live demonstrations. The dance workshops create the building block for students to join regular classes from Connect N Dance. Participants can get a taste of the lessons through workshops or directly join in for regular weekly lessons.

Our Mission and Impact on Community

At a time when people in our global neighborhood need to find new avenues to value and respect one another irrespective of diversity in race, color, religion and backgrounds, Connect N Dance unites people through the common thread of love of dance and music. This forum thus adds to the cultural vitality, emotional connectivity and inclusiveness in diversity of our neighboring community.

Through dance workshops, participants across culture, color, race or religion learn to appreciate diverse cultures, understand expressions irrespective of languages and dance in sync. We share basic introduction to Odissi and provide English translation for songs used for the choreographies.

Our broader neighborhood community benefits when they relish the recordings of the participants performances or join in for the live shows at the end of the workshops, acting as “allies” as we celebrate inclusiveness in diversity through dance!
